About Primary & Secondary

Australia’s almost 4.1 million school aged students are educated across public, catholic and independent schools. While almost two-thirds of Australian students are educated in our public education system, a growing number are educated through the catholic and independent school system. With around $32.3 billion in annual revenue, Australia’s 3,000 private educational institutions employ around 180,000 people.

As our population grows, so too does the demand for education places, though increasingly, more parents are choosing to send their children to private schools. This is driven by a perception of a higher quality education and the availability of more discretionary income at a household level. While public school enrolments have remained stagnant overall, private schools have experienced almost 30 per cent growth in enrolments over the decade to 2023.

Innovation and technology have become a core capability within our schools. Recent years have seen primary and secondary schools innovate substantially, implementing flexible learning arrangements to respond to the changing environment and improve engagement in education – schools in this decade are schools of the future, demanding new skillsets from educators and staff.
