About our Hospital & Public Health Practice

Australia has one of the world's most accessible health systems, with more than 11 million people admitted annually. With over 1 million employees and an annual spend more than $220 billion, our health system continues to be a growing industry, working hard to keep pace with increasing demand.

Population ageing and the prohibitive cost of medical technologies is contributing to the growing burden on governments to fund health care services, demanding new thinking on sustainable funding models to ensure the long-term viability of the health system. Our health system is complex, with fragmented funding and responsibilities shared across federal, state, and territory governments and the private health system. This fragmentation leads to inefficiencies and challenges in providing integrated, patient-centred care that requires strong leadership and clinical governance.

Significant workforce shortages are driving a high reliance on temporary, external, contract-based clinical and operational roles. This in turn is leading to increased costs for frontline contractors and higher overtime and sick leave rates for permanent staff, placing further pressure on already strained budgets.
