Charities & Philanthropy
About our Charities & Philanthropy Practice
Australia’s 61,000 charities and non-profit organisations employ over 1.5 million people and are supported by 3.5 million volunteers. Our charities and non-profits commit over $200 billion annually to their community efforts with 30 per cent spent on education and research, 15% in public benevolent and health related areas and 41% by organisations with multiple services.
As our charity sector becomes more mature in the adoption of commercial practices, we see the sector growing and becoming more sustainable. This growth is largely owing to increasing, long-term government grants allowing expansion into sectors like housing, healthcare, and education. While this is positive, delivering more services in highly regulated sectors demands a different capability within organisations.
Despite a growing funding base, finding and affording skilled labour continues to be a challenge for charitable organisations. While the sector is supported by millions of volunteers, the capabilities needed to lead large, complex organisations continue to be challenging in market. Combined with increasing demand for services, charities and philanthropic services need to remain attuned to shifting economic circumstances
