The Opportunity
The Director of Nursing and Midwifery at Westmead Hospital is a key executive role responsible for providing leadership, governance, strategic and operational management across the Nursing and Midwifery Services. Reporting to the General Manager of Westmead Hospital and working closely with the Facility Executive Team leading a large, multidisciplinary team, the Director of Nursing and Midwifery will provide:
- Strategic, operational and professional leadership of Nursing & Midwifery Services, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based care delivery aligned with national and organisational standards.
- Oversight of governance, risk, and performance, including accreditation, workforce planning, budget management, clinical outcomes, and safety initiatives.
- Operational responsibility for patient flow, infection control, disaster management, staffing levels, and compliance with professional and regulatory requirements.
- Drive innovation, education, and research, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, capability development, and future workforce planning.
- Active participation in executive leadership, including on-call responsibilities, stakeholder engagement, media management, and alignment with NSW Health CORE values and strategic priorities.
As an accomplished and forward-thinking leader, you possess a wealth of experience in driving organisational change management. The successful applicant will bring:
- Extensive senior nursing leadership experience in relevant health settings, supported by tertiary qualifications and proven operational management capability.
- Strong resource management skills, ensuring safe, culturally responsive, high-quality care through effective use of human, physical, and financial assets.
- Proven strategic and workforce planning expertise, including the implementation of adaptable workforce models aligned with evolving service needs.
- Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to lead change and manage complex HR and industrial matters.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability, with deep knowledge of contemporary nursing/midwifery practice and current professional issues.
- Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse – Division 1.
